Education System in New Zealand – One Year Courses in New Zealand

Why study in New Zealand? The education system in New Zealand shows or reflects unique, different and diverse society. They receive different abilities, ethnic groups, religious beliefs, and ideas about teaching and learning. The schools are excellent in discipline so as to feel comfortable & safe to young peoples.

In New Zealand there are 3 categories of education. They are

  1. Early childhood Education
  2. Primary & Secondary Education
  3. Tertiary Education

1. Early childhood education (ECE)

Why study in New Zealand? Here children’s can take part in early childhood education from birth to school entry age. ECE is not mandatory but around 95% of children’s go to an ECE service. These education starts from the age of 3 and ends at the age of 5, a child can go to an ECE service for 20 hours a week for free. It includes kindergartens, childcare and ply groups.

2. Primary And secondary Education

The second level of education is primary and secondary education. This education is free (only in state schools) and it is compulsory between the age of 5 to 16 if they are a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident. Primary school subjects are guided by the National Curriculum and Secondary schools subjects are guided by the National Certificate of Education Achievement (NCEA). The student has to go full year and they spread four differently even terms. They are

  1. Term 1: February to mid-April
  2. Term 2: Late April to early July
  3. Term 3: Mid July to late September
  4. Term 4: Mid October to mid-December

In New Zealand there are 3 different categories of schools. They are

A. State-funded or public schools:

These schools are free for students, they charge only minimum amount of money for books, uniforms. If the parents applied for the school which is nearest to their area then the admission for the kid is guaranteed.

B. State integrated Schools:

These are the schools that are religious in nature (catholic) and they are having similar structure like public schools. Those who wishes to give religious education to their children’s they can take admission in these schools. These schools are also providing free education and charging some amount of money for uniforms and other study materials.

C. Private Schools:

These schools are charging fees for admission the cost is around $ 4000 to $28000 for a year. They teach both academic and religious intense or provide options according to what the parents may want.

3. Tertiary Education

The New Zealand tertiary education sector includes Private Training Establishments (PTEs), Institutes of Technology and Polytechnics (ITPs), universities, and work place training.

They deliver a wide range of educational options, frequently in flexible ways to match the needs of adult learners. In these categories they offer variety of courses which range from transition (school to work) programmes, by the help of postgraduate study and research. To fulfill the required quality standards. Universities offer higher, degree –level education and such degrees tend to be specific & applied.

Universities are offering advance learning for Students to develop intellectual independence, to active in advancing knowledge to meet international standards of research & teaching. And to increase the skills and knowledge for professions such as medicine, law, engineering, teaching & accounting.
