Tuition Fees in USA – Engineering Universities in USA for International Students
Why study in USA? In the USA education system, the cost for international degrees is very high as compared to other countries. The tuition fee per year ranges between $5000 to $50,000 and this fee could vary for a MBA or Medical degree program. The tuition fees depends upon many factors like the university selected – either Government affiliated or Non-Government affiliated, location of the university and the number of credits a student chooses to take.
Costs involved during the application process:
To get admitted into any of the US Universities, a student has to take up the GRE (graduate Record Examination) and IELTS/TOEFL exams, which costs around $350. Apart from this, a student has to bear the cost for sending through courier the official GRE and TOEFL scores to the respective Universities. Along with is the cost of application fees for individual Colleges which could vary from $20 to $150.
Apart from these, a student has to bear other expenses like the cost of living that is considerably high in America and which comes around $1000 per month, traveling cost is about $500, health insurance cost of $500 per semester. These expenses can be easily met by taking part time on-campus jobs. The pay comes around $5 to $15 per hour for part time on-campus jobs. International students can work for 20 hrs /week and almost for 40hrs/week during their semester holidays. Initially for a period of 2 semesters, an international student needs to work part-time but only on the college campus. From 3rd semester onwards they can commence working outside the campus.
Most of the international students are given scholarships or internships during the second year of their program that helps them in covering the cost of tuition fees for that year. These scholarships mainly are granted based on the overall academics performance, GRE scores and IELTS/TOEFL scores. Some of the universities provide tuition fees wave-offs after the first semester if the student’s performance is very good.
To sum-up, the overall expenses for an individual, particularly for an international student doing his/her MS program for 2 yrs in the USA is around $70,000.
