Education System in USA – Current American Education System

The USA is spending so much of amount on the education compared to any other countries. The education is categorized mainly into three levels: elementary school, middle or junior high school, and high school. There are also a huge number of publicly and private owned institutions of higher education throughout the country and provides better job opportunities, thus so attracting many international students with different education stream for their higher studies from across world.

Why study in USA? The students in USA initially attend the Elementary School, where student attends for six years of education and later enters into Middle or Junior High School for secondary school education. After completing the Middle School, a student’s gets admitted into Colleges or Universities based on individuals career subjects.

The international Students from various countries choose USA for either to complete their undergraduate programs or post-graduation programs (Masters or PhD’s). In the undergraduate programs, students get a bachelor’s degree from a differently monitored university or college. The students can switch over the major subjects selected in their programs selected in UG courses. So the education system is flexible thus providing opportunity to explore many courses.

In the Master’s program, a student who has completed their bachelors, are eligible for these programs which are of either a one year program or two year programs based on the universities and the courses. So get admitted into these universities, an international student has to take up some of the mandatory exams and score good points in the tests (GRE, IELTS and TOEFL). Most students prefer pursuing Masters in USA. Similarly for PHD programs, an international student has to take required entrance tests and should know two foreign languages.

Why study in USA? In USA, the higher educations are provided by the following kind of Universities and they are State College or University (Government Affiliated), Private College or University (Non-Government Affiliated), Community College and Institute of Technology respectively. Each course is associated with number of credits or credit hours, which is a student studying the number of hours on the subjects in class per week. An international student has to fulfill a required number of credits to graduate from the College or University.

State College or University:

Why study in USA? These universities are operated by the supervision of state governments and are funded. So these universities get subsidies from the state. Therefore, these universities provide a discount on tuition fees to USA residents.

Private College or University:

Most of the Universities are Private University. These universities are small and are operated by the Private organization, when compared to State University. Therefore, the tuition fees are more and offer many multidisciplinary professional courses.

Community College:

These Universities provide a Associated Degree or certification colleges. The degrees attained form these Universities are transferable. I.e. they can transfer the credits they earned while attending community college to universities for completing their bachelors.

Institute of Technology:

Many of these universities provide four years of study in science and technology. Sometimes a short term courses are also provided by these Colleges.
